About
We are a small team of social scientists who undertake strategic and operational research and business analytics to position, inform, and shape how people think about, use, and support Canada's national parks and national historic sites. Our areas of work include visitor and audience research and analytics, performance measurement, and economic analysis. We are seeking a conservation-oriented (ecological) socioeconomist to join our team to build on a history of applying socio-economics at Parks Canada. Reporting to the Chief Social Scientist, you will:

🎓 EDUCATION
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in economics, sociology, statistics or a social science discipline relevant to the responsibilities of the position.
Candidates must have a degree. The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. The specialization may also be obtained through an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

EX1: Recent* and diverse** experience in planning and conducting socioeconomic analysis in the fields of recreation, tourism, protected areas or nature conservation;
EX2: Recent* experience providing advice on socioeconomic approaches or methods for quantifying or evaluating impacts, costs, or benefits in the fields of recreation, tourism, protected areas or nature conservation;
EX3: Recent* experience in communicating the results of socioeconomic analysis to non-economists.
Bilingual - Imperative (BBB/BBB)
The intention of this process is to staff the position with a person who meets the bilingual linguistic requirements. - Be responsible for conducting, supporting, and advising on a range of initiatives that are at the intersection of socioeconomics, protected heritage (nature and culture/history), and government accountability.
- Conduct and provide support/advice to clients on economic approaches, methods and tools. Areas may include impact analysis (e.g., tourism, program investments), economic lift (e.g. heritage assets), cost-benefit analysis (e.g. regulatory and establishment initiatives), ecosystem service/natural capital accounting, and benefits of conservation (natural and cultural).
- Prepare and disseminate relevant economic information, ensuring timely and consumable information to inform decision-making.
- Work within the structures, policies and demands of government and protected heritage areas.
